A dialogue with O’Donnell + Tuomey. A contemplative space, a light funnel, a lantern chamber, a passage. A golden oak body, a boat, an airship, a Vessel.
Created for the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012 as part of O’Donnell + Tuomey’s installation in the Arsenale Corerie, Vessel was originally inspired by a study of Greek Chapels, of the seclusion and protection they offer. The gilt lining and golden light resonate a richness of material and colour within its hollowed out form, while its name is suggestive of embodiment, enshrinement and containment.
